About The EU Fisheries Control Coalition

We can only achieve sustainable fisheries and healthy ocean ecosystems in the European Union if the Common Fisheries Policy is implemented and the rules followed. The fisheries Control Regulation is the cornerstone of the EU fisheries control and monitoring system. It includes responsibilities and obligations for EU Member States with respect to access to their waters and resources, traceability, surveillance of vessels and enforcement. However, it is an outdated regulation which does not provide for the development of fully document fisheries in the EU and is silent on transparency issues.

The EU Fisheries Control CoalitionThe Environmental Justice Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Oceana, Seas At Risk, and WWF, together with ClientEarth, The Fisheries Secretariat, Our Fish and Sciaena – is working to ensure that fisheries management in the EU safeguards ocean health and marine life for generations to come. A robust Control Regulation is essential for sustainable fisheries. It will ensure that fisheries activities are fully documented and bring transparency to our seafood supply chains.

The EU Fisheries Control Coalition is an alliance of leading NGOs that works with organizations and individuals throughout Europe to secure a fisheries control system that safeguards ocean health and marine resources for generations to come. Find out more about our work here.
